Thinkin' 'bout Inkin' (with David McGuire)

To clarify what I said a few days ago.

The thing about the word, webcomic, is that every single newspaper comic strip in syndication is officially available on the web.  So are a ton of print comic books (not to mention all of the bootlegged comics and manga on the web).  Including html, ebooks, and torrented files, it’s getting so that the “web” in “webcomic” is kinda implied.

Not that when we say, “webcomics,” we mean, “comics on the web.”  Webcomics are indie comics on the web.

And I get that there are a few comics professionals out there still claiming that webcomics are not “legitimate,” but this is because they don’t view self-publishers as true professionals.  That’s the whole “print versus web debate” in a nutshell.  They don’t actually care if your comic is digital or in print or painted on the side of a building.

But they really are in the minority.  It’s fun to feel oppressed, but the sad truth is most print cartoonists love webcomics.

In short, “webcartoonist” is an inaccurate title, but it has a nice ring to it and everyone knows what it really means anyway.
